Plan B - Planning for disaster

More and more Second Life events are planning for disaster. Meetings and events are starting to schedule with alternate venues, or alternate times in case the target sim is down, or Second Life just isn't operating properly when it needs to be.

Real Life has always persistently intruded in on things, of course. Mia Farrow's appearance was delayed by an RL fire (and the production schedule of another business, already delayed by the update issues this month were likewise further set back by fire -- It may have even been the same actual fire).

In practice, it's only a small percentage right now that are planning around Second Life issues, but 2006 has taught Second Lifers to be leery of scheduling anything important on (or a few days after) an update day, and more and more meeting and event organizers are starting to work on a Plan B if SL is just not behaving. Whether you have several meeting spaces to evade rolling updates (I've had rolling updates bite more than once during a meeting) or the sim you were intending to use just refuses to come up and stay up (as with two events I had today - but alternate venues had already been arranged).

by Tateru NinoDo you plan events around the possibility that things in the Second Life infrastructure might go wrong? Or do you go ahead confident that things go right more often than they don't?
