Brazilians swarm into Second Life
A piece on Second Life on Brazilian prime-time television -- "Jornal do Almoço" on RBS TV, a TV Globo affiliate -- backed up by a recent magazine spot is bringing thousands of Brazilians into Second Life today.
According to Second Life Volunteers Gwyneth Llewelyn and SignpostMarv Martin, Portugese-speaking Brazilians are flooding into the Orientation Islands and taking their tentative first steps in Second Life. With the current ongoing difficulties, this is perhaps not the most auspicious time for them to be trying to get to grips with things, but we certainly wish them the best of luck, especially as English literacy is uncommon among the natives of Brazil.
Unofficial estimates place the existing Brazilian population in Second Life at about 20,000 -- a number which is obviously going to swell rapidly over the next few days. The Second Life Brazilian community has an active and very helpful support group, however actually finding it with the group search system down is likely to be very, very difficult.
